URBANTECH has decided to present its "Big Babel" project in response to a call for bids from the 3F Housing Association, concerning the rehabilitation of the "Tower 27" in the "Quartier de la Croix Blanche" in Vigneux-sur-Seine, France.

"Big Babel" is both a desire and a vision. The desire is in seeing the urbanism of the 60s — rundown by time and unsuccessful rehabilitations— now become a real possibility for modern urbanism and lifestyle. The vision is in creating synergy between housing, artist and designer studios, co-working spaces, an associative restaurant and a vegetable garden...all in Tower 27.

Work for this project will consist of a complete overhaul – instead of a demolition -- of Tower 27. This renovation will include reducing the height of the tower in order to improve its footprint; there will also be a partial renovation of the housing areas; and there are plans for mixing professional and living spaces within the tower.
